Our 6-Week Entrepreneurship & Braiding Program helps students ages 8–17 learn professional braiding techniques, build confidence, develop customer service skills, and explore entrepreneurship in a supportive, hands-on environment.
Youth Braiding Academy is a hands-on youth development program that builds skills, confidence, creativity, professionalism, and entrepreneurial thinking — all at once.
Students practice real techniques on mannequin heads from day one using professional supplies — the same tools working stylists use.
Every class is capped at 10 students so every child gets personal attention, technique corrections, and encouragement throughout the program.
Students don't just learn to braid — they learn customer service, professional behavior, and how to turn a skill into income.
Progress photos and videos are sent to parents throughout the program so you see your child's growth in real time.
Dionne James is a Licensed Cosmetology Instructor with 30+ years of experience who has trained thousands of students throughout her career.
Students graduate with an official Certificate of Completion — a credential they can be proud of and build upon.

Parting, sectioning, individual braids, cornrows without extensions, sanitation, cleanliness, customer service, and professional behavior.
Adding extension hair, knotless braids, feed-in cornrows, and lengthening techniques.
Two-strand twists without extensions and Senegalese twists with extensions.
Stitch braids, precision parting, and advanced styling techniques.
Review, troubleshooting, speed, consistency, and student-selected technique adjustments where appropriate.
Final review of techniques, skill demonstration, questions, photos, certificate of completion, and celebration of progress.

Youth Braiding Academy is led by Dionne James, a Licensed Cosmetology Instructor, Master Cosmetologist, author, educator, salon owner, and entrepreneur with more than 30 years of experience in the beauty industry. Dionne created the academy to help young people learn real skills, build confidence, and develop an entrepreneurial mindset through the art of braiding.
The workbook helps students follow along with class lessons, complete practice assignments, review techniques, and access business and vendor resources they can continue using after the program ends. Recommended for students who want the full learning experience and want to hit the ground running.
